New Bay to Breakers Owner Pledges Responsible FunPublished by San Francisco Gate on October 2, 2013 Bay to Breakers has a new owner with a vision of greatness for San Francisco's most famous and quirky footrace. It still includes costumes and nude people. "There's no reason this can't be the biggest race in the country. It has that history," said Casey Wasserman, CEO of Wasserman Media Group, which has bought the Bay to Breakers for an undisclosed amount from AEG, the international sports and entertainment company owned by billionaire Philip Anschutz. The deal is to be announced Wednesday. Terms were not disclosed. Wasserman is planning to meet Wednesday with a gamut of San Franciscans, from longtime race participants to neighbors to city officials, and listen to thoughts about the event while trying to assuage concerns that the new ownership group would try to crack down on the Bay to Breakers' atmosphere of party and whimsy. "Our job as stewards of this tradition is to put the fun back in and ramp up the fun quotient," Wasserman said by phone from his Los Angeles office. "If we didn't want to be in that business, then we wouldn't have bought Bay to Breakers." Read the full article at: www.sfgate.com
