Biwott Eyes Victory in His Second Appearance at the London Marathon

Published by The Star on February 4, 2014

THE 2012 Paris Marathon winner Stanley Biwott hopes to impress on his second appearance in Virgin London Marathon this April. He is among the men’s stellar-cast lineup unveiled by London Marathon race director, Hugh Brasher over the weekend in Iten.

Biwott will face stiff opposition from fellow Kenyans including world marathon record holder Wilson Kipsang, London marathon record holder, Emmanuel Mutai, Boston and World Marathon Majors winner and Geoffrey Mutai. The foreign legion will be led by Marilson dos Santos, Double Olympic champion Mo Farah and Ibrahim Jeilan who will be making their marathon debut among other top road racers for the event.

Biwott made his London Marathon debut last year and despite commanding the pace for a better part of the race, he ended up eighth in 2.08.39. Ethiopia’s Tsegaye Kebede won the race and was followed by Emmanuel Mutai.

Biwott said he is enjoying top form at the moment and has every intention of claiming the top prize

“I have prepared well for the race and I want to win this edition. I know I am ranked fifth with a time of 2.05.12 in the current field but that will count for nothing if my form is anything to go by,” Biwott said.
