Vail Cleared of Jury Duty, Set to Run London

Jury Duty Deferred for Portland Marathoner Ryan Vail

Multnomah County has accepted distance runner Ryan Vail's appeal to be excused from jury duty on April 10.

Vail will be out of the country then and in the final stages of his preparation for the April 13 London Marathon, in which he is one of the top entries.

Multnomah County at first denied his request to be excused. After Vail tweeted about the denial, it became a national story in running circles.

Vail said Tuesday by text message that a letter had arrived in the day's mail that informed him the county had accepted his appeal and deferred his summons until May.

"All clear for now," Vail said via text.
