Tim Young Selected to Run for Team USA in Pan American Games

Press Release

Tim Young, a resident of Fredericksburg, Virginia, has been selected by USA Track & Field to represent the United Sates next month in the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada.

Young is one of two U.S. men selected to compete in the marathon in the Games, which take place July 10-26. The men’s marathon will be contested along the waterfront in downtown Toronto on Saturday, July 25 at 7:00 a.m.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be chosen for the Pan Am Games,” Young said. “This is the first time I've had the privilege of representing my country in an international event and I am delighted to have the opportunity. I will wear the Team USA singlet proudly."  Over 6,000 athletes from 41 nations are expected to compete in 36 sports at venues throughout the Toronto metropolitan area.

Following his graduation from James Madison University, Young, 28, turned professional and became a member of the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project in Michigan from 2010 to 2012.  At the Chicago Marathon last year, Young finished 14th (5th American) in a personal best time of 2:14:40.  He was the 2nd American (10th overall) in the 2014 Houston Marathon (2:15:14) and finished 4th in the 2014 U.S. 10 Mile Championships (47:45). In 2013, Young placed 2nd in the 2013 Raleigh Relays 10,000 meters setting a personal record of 29:21.  Young is a three-time champion and the course record holder of the Marine Corps Historic Half Marathon in his hometown of Fredericksburg. He is an athlete sponsored by Brooks Running.

Young has also qualified to compete in the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials next February in Los Angeles. The top three finishers at the Trials will represent the USA at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He is coached by Luke Humphrey, himself a professional distance runner, author, and long-time member of the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project.
