Molly Huddle Hopes Her Hot Summer Continues

Published by the New Haven Register on August 26, 2014

Professional distance runner Molly Huddle turns 30 on Sunday. The next day she’ll be racing.

Huddle, who resides in Providence, Rhode Island, will take part in the 37th annual Faxon Law New Haven Road Race on Monday.

“It will be my first race as a 30-year-old,” Huddle said with a laugh.

It will also be her first entry into the New Haven Road Race, which also serves as the USA Track and Field 20K National Championship. Huddle has already enjoyed a summer of headlines and personal records.

In June she won the Oakley New York Mini 10K title in a time of 31 minutes, 37 seconds, where she broke the national all-women’s record set by Mary Decker Slaney in 1984. In mid-July she broke her own American record in the 5,000 meters at the IAAF Diamond League meet in Monaco with a blistering time of 14:42.64.

About a week later she won the Quad-City Times Bix 7 (USA 7-Mile Championship) title in Davenport, Iowa. She recently placed third in the Falmouth (Massachusetts) Road Race, crossing the finish line as the first American female.
