Hartmann finishes fourth at Boston Marathon4/16/2012
INDIANAPOLIS – Competitors fought temperatures of more than 80 degrees Monday for the 116th Boston Marathon as Jason Hartmann grabbed a fourth place finish and Sheri Piers placed 10th in the women’s competition. Hartmann, who placed eighth at the 2010 Chicago Marathon and won the 2009 Twin Cities Marathon, held the lead at the half-marathon mark in a time of 1:06:10 en route to his fourth place time of 2:14:31. Piers finished in 2:41:55. Hartmann and Piers both raced the marathon distance at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in January. Along with Hartmann, the top three American finishers in Boston in the men’s competition included Tim Chichester, who placed 11th (2:21:10), and Sergio Reyes, who finished 12th (2:22:06). Hillary Dionne placed 15th (2:51:56) and Shannon Miller finished 16th (2:55:47) as the top American women behind Piers. Due to the warm temperatures competitors were given the option of not running Monday and keeping their spot for the 2013 Boston Marathon. More than 4,000 of the 26,656 registered runners did not start the race.
